RE : SEDITION ACT OF MALAYSIA

1 . It was reported that the spokeman for Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr Rupert Collvile had asked the Malaysian government to launch a review of the Sedition Act and ask to promised to repeal or amend it in accordance with the international human rights obligations.

2.  It’s understood that Mr Rupert Collvile urged the Malaysian Government to stop prosecution under the act and to drop all charges. He was referring to those who have been arrested and charged under the Sedition Act especially the opposition leaders in Malaysia.

3.  I wonder why suddenly OHCHR so interested with the sedition act in Malaysia, while America has the Internal Security Act which are inhuman than in Malaysia. Many people were detained without trial.

4.  In Malaysia, anyone arrested and being accused under the Sedition Act will be trial in open court. Those involved have the rights to defend themselves and they can have as many lawyers as required by the accused.

5.  In Asia, not only Malaysia has the Sedition Act, so what is the motive of OHCHR targetting Malaysia?

6. Singapore has the Internal Security Act (ISA) and also Sedition Act. Singapore government detained political opponent for 23 years without trial. Subsequently place him under conditions of house arrest for another 9 years in which he was the first confined to the island and then subject to restrictions on his place of abode, employment, travel and exercise of political rights.

7. After the elections campaigning, many political opponents make bankrupt under the skirts of defamation suit brought by the Singapore government. Many have left Singapore for fear been arrested or sued in court for defamation. What has been done or what action has been taken by OHCHR under the name of Human Rights?

8. Presently there is on going court case, Singapore Prime Minister’s defamation lawsuit against Singaporean blogger who believes in speaking for his country and people. Why not the OHCHR ask the Prime Minister of Singapore to drop the lawsuit?

9. Oppresssion against the Palestinian people were ignored and the struggle of OHCHR based solely for certain quaters to achieved their political ends.
